Under the new system, that same message would display as “Hurry up!” and every participant in the chat receives a notification that the message was rephrased.

Rajiv Bhatia, vice president of User and Discovery Product at Roblox, described the reasoning directly. “Real-time rephrasing helps keep gameplay and conversations on track while guiding language toward what’s appropriate,” he said. “This approach reduces friction in chat while maintaining the standards that help keep our community civil.”
Roblox is clear that rephrasing does not replace its broader safety infrastructure. For more serious violations, the existing safety systems remain fully active.

Alongside rephrasing, Roblox is upgrading its text-filtering engine to catch more attempts to work around banned language, including leetspeak and other substitution tactics users commonly deploy to slip past automated filters.
Early results from the upgraded detection system are notable. Roblox reports a 20x reduction in false negatives related to the sharing or soliciting of personal information, suggesting the system is catching attempts it previously missed.
The rephrasing feature supports all languages currently available through Roblox’s automatic translation tools, giving the update broad reach across its global user base.

The timing of Thursday’s announcement is not incidental. Roblox recently introduced mandatory facial verification for platform chat access, a move that followed a series of lawsuits filed by attorneys general in Texas, Kentucky, Louisiana, and other states. Those legal actions centered on allegations that the platform exposed young users to grooming and explicit content.
